WWII in Europe
Pvt. Delbert Kendrick (1916-2001), son of Charles and Nanna Cauthon Kendrick.
When Kendrick answered his nation's call in July 1944, his third daughter was barely three weeks old. He would spend Christmas at Camp Wheeler, Georgia while training. Kendrick was soon in Germany with Company A, 17th Armored Infantry Battalion, 12th Armored Division. His wife, Mary, received a letter the following June, telling her of her husband's bravery. By August 1945, Kendrick was on a ship heading back home.
Delbert resumed civilian life, having three more children with Mary, and living in Bates County. Kendrick passed at the age of 85 and was laid to rest at Crescent Hill Cemetery. A brick has been laid in his honor at the Lt. Charles Garrison Veterans Memorial.
Be sure to read the newspaper article here about Kendrick from The Republican Press, Butler, Missouri, July 26, 1945.
